Description

From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs...

Disney's adaptation of the beloved fairy tale became a classic in its own right, thanks to some memorable tunes (including "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes," "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," and the title song) and some endearingly cute comic relief...

A Whole New World With DVDs

There are three types of DVD recorders that work in different ways. Whichever you choose will surely satisfy your recording needs.

A DVD recorder refers to an optical disc recording equipment, which records video into vacuous-writable DVD media. It may exist either as installable drives in computers or as standalone components for use in studios or home theater systems. DVD authoring software is being used in conjunction with DVD recorder drives. Computer based DVD recorders can handle CD-R and CD-RW media. The internal drives are designed with parallel ATA and external drives use USB 2.0 or IEEE 1394.

Standalone DVD recorders can record in all major formats DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD+R DL. Some include hard disk-based digital video recorders (DVRs) to improve ease of use. Mostly, DVD recorders have caused the dropping of that old VCR that we normally used before.

There are several advantages of using DVD recorders than the VCR. Some of them are:
• DVD has excellent audio and video quality.
• It is a conveniently compact disc media, and is far more long-lasting than magnetic tape.
• It can randomly access video chapters without rewinding or fast-forwarding.
• The onscreen multilingual subtitles and labeling unavailable on VCRs.
• It has reduced playback wear and tear.
• It has high-quality digital copying, with little or no generation loss.
• It has improved editing, at any rate on rewritable media.
• It has play listing.
• It has no danger of unexpectedly recording over existing data or suddenly finding no space while recording.
• It has easy to find recordings due to chapter menus.

Because of these advantages, DVD recorders have shown a new dimension of ease and possibilities that left the world of VCRs and video tapes. Despite all these advantages, there is also a disadvantage in the use of DVDs. Recording with DVD recorders should be finalized to watch in the other DVD players. This does not apply to DVD-RAM and DVD+RW disc because these two kinds of discs require no finalization due to the random access nature that they have.

There are three types of DVD recorders that work in different ways, with only few differences. They are: DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVD-RAM. DVD-R/RW allows you to record onto rewritable discs. You can record here for over as many times as you like. The machine records over any free space on the DVD. But remember that this disc can only be used on compatible DVD-R/RW players. DVD+R/RW are similar to DVD-R/RW. This machine work with rewritable and used-once DVDs. DVD+R/RW is compatible with other DVD players and it offers a few extra features that you can use. DVD-RAM makes you do things like pausing live TV shows, watch another program on the disc at the same time as recording, and start watching your show while still being recorded.

There are already many brands of DVD recorders available in the market now. There are even mini DVDs available just for you. The two most well-known brands are the Panasonic DMR-EH55S DVD Recorder Hard Drive Combination and Toshiba RDXS55 DVD Recorder/Hard Drive Combo with HDMI output. The Panasonic is part of the continuing trend and it offers plenty of features that you need. If you have an HD- compatible television, then Toshiba is the best for you. It has combined features, with a large 250GB hard drive, but it also features 720p/1080i up scaling output capability for both commercial and home recorded DVDs via its HDMI output.

The two mentioned above are just few of the most saleable DVD recorders in the world. There are many more DVD recorders available nowadays that have even more great features. The only thing to do is for you to try finding the newest models being introduced in the market and compare what makes them different from the rest and the old ones. See also what fits or satisfies your taste. If you can find the one that suits your taste, you can buy it; just be sure it is within your budget. DVD recorders are affordable nowadays. Try to purchase one for yourself now.

How do I connect all the wires to my VCR, DVD, STEREO and TV?

I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder, an Aiwa Stereo Amplifier a Toshiba VCR and Magnavox TV. How do I wire so I get my DVD's to play in Dolby Digital, record my VCR tapes to my DVD recorder, etc... Let me know if you need model numbers. Thanks in advance!

First, to get Dolby Digital audio, either your DVD player or your Amplifier/Receiver has to have the Dolby Digital decoder built in. If that is the case with either of your units, I would suggest the following:

Connect the Audio Left OUT, Right Audio OUT, and Video OUT from the back of the VCR to the Audio Left IN, Right Audio IN and Video IN on the back of the DVD Recorder using RCA cable.

Connect the Audio Left, Right and Video OUT RCA cables to the Audio Left, Right and Video IN on the back of the Amplifier/Receiver OR you may have a digital (optical) output from the DVD Recorder that you can connect to the digital input on the back of the Amp/Receiver OR there may also be an option to connect via "Component input/output connections on both DVD and Amp/Receiver units.

Your cable TV or satellite coaxial cable should go from wall to decoder box (if applicable) IN, then another cable from decoder box OUT to the back cable INPUT on your DVD Recorder, then another cable from the rear DVD Recorder cable OUT to your TV Cable INPUT (or to your Amp/Receiver cable INPUT, if you want/have video switching capability, then you would have to connect another cable from the cable OUTPUT from the Amp/Receiver to your TV cable INPUT.)

Clear as mud, eh?

There's always the user manuals, LOL!

Good Luck!
